Hash Generator

Generate hash values from text or files. Supports MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 algorithms.

Hash Algorithm Guide

  • MD5: 128-bit, fast but not secure (use for checksums only)
  • SHA-1: 160-bit, legacy system compatibility
  • SHA-256: 256-bit, current standard widely used
  • SHA-512: 512-bit, for higher security requirements

Understanding a Hash Function

A hash function is a cryptographic algorithm that takes data of any length and produces a fixed-length string -- called a hash value, digest, or fingerprint -- that uniquely represents the input. The same input always yields the same hash, yet recovering the original data from the hash alone is computationally infeasible. This one-way property makes hashing fundamental to file integrity verification, secure password storage, digital signatures, blockchain transaction validation, and countless other security-critical systems. This tool generates hashes using five algorithms at once -- MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 -- for both text input and file uploads.
