Cron Expression Generator Guide

Understanding a Cron Expression

A cron expression is a compact string format used in Unix and Linux environments to schedule recurring tasks. It consists of five fields -- minute, hour, day of month, month, and day of week -- and each field accepts numbers, ranges, or special characters to define exactly when a job should run. System administrators rely on cron expressions for everything from log rotation and database backups to cache clearing and health-check scripts. This tool lets you build cron expressions visually without memorizing the syntax, and it also works in reverse: paste an existing expression and get a plain-English explanation of what it does.
