What is Image Watermark?
An image watermark is a text overlay placed on top of a photo or graphic to indicate copyright ownership or promote a brand. Adding your name, website URL, or brand text to blog images, portfolio photos, or social media posts helps prevent unauthorized use and clearly identifies the source. This tool works directly in your browser, so you can add watermarks quickly without installing any software.
How It Works
Image watermarking overlays text or image layers on the original using Canvas's globalAlpha with drawImage()/fillText(). Opacity, position, size, and rotation angle are adjustable. Tiled watermarks repeat across the entire canvas in a pattern to prevent unauthorized use.
Effective Watermarking Guide
Watermarks effectively protect image copyright and prevent unauthorized use. Text watermarks suit brand names or copyright notices, while image watermarks work well for logo placement. Opacity of 30-50% looks most natural — too strong obscures the image, too light is easily removed.
Center placement is most effective, though corner placement preserves composition. Tiled (repeating) watermarks cover the entire image, making removal by cropping difficult. Use for portfolio sharing, online galleries, and product image protection. Keep high-resolution print files without watermarks as separate copies.
